It seems to be much better now. I managed to get some larger files uploaded.

the site is slow again

there nothing i can do about it. so just deal with it. the owner said the code is due for a full update which should fix all these issues

now today at night the site is very slow again and all the time I get error 502.

well before you tell me why the aftbooru and aft site is very slow and every hour the site is normal sometimes. well then i saw on allthefallen.org that Some systems are experiencing issues because One of the drives in the server is faulty, it locks up the whole server from time-to-time. I have already reached a technician to work on a replacement.
I am also worried because I have spent more than 12 hours without solving the problem, so I have to wait half an hour for the site to be back to normal.

the login was reset so that means the server was rebooted so hopefully the drive was fixed.

I sometimes get worried about what might happen down the line years from now - the more data that gets hosted, the more downloaders to a growing userbase, the more expense.

I'm wondering if there could be ways to mitigate that, like for example defaulting to smaller thumbnails so that casual browsers won't use as much data in casual browsing?

This wouldn't prevent full-res viewing but would at least slow it down because you'd need to be a longer-time user who is intelligent/observant to enable the zoom. Making it a service/reward towards the types who might leave better comments, help with tags, etc instead of just the fappy coomers.

I'd actually be for "registration only" viewing to help slow down traffic (or maybe something like only "safe" rated images" can be viewed when logged out?) in some way too.

Or maybe something like a daily image-viewing quota equal to the number of days you've been registered as a member?

this site is supported by donations. if it ever became a paysite in anyway it would send it to an early grave. however registered users only for just the explicit content wouldnt be a bad idea mainly cause of the content hosted here and google likes to logs this sites data. still free to register and full access of course.
