I think Gelbooru changed their naming rules to emphasize English so we're kinda fucked

For example, we still use : https://booru.allthefallen.moe/posts?tags=sakurai_meiru

But they switched over to https://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=mayl_sakurai_%28mega_man%29

I think Gelbooru used to romanize names in "family then given" order how they are pronounced in Japanese if they are Japanese-original characters, so our tagging emulated that format for Jap-original chars.

But now it seems they've gone the way of Paheal and started emphasizing the "given then family" order in English which is used in a lot of dubs/translations.

They can do this easily because they have the admin tools to just mass-rename a tag, whereas we do not.

This creates an impossible amount of work to manually retitle stuff one by one... which ideally we don't want to have to do, if we could use tools to solve it in a fell swoop.

if we don't then there's three outcomes I can see based on approach

1) we copy the tags over, meaning character art gets split between the old (jap order) tag and the new (eng order) tags, until we can (tool or manually) retitle

2) when copying tags over we need to intervene to change the eng-order char tags to our established jap-order

3) we adopt the new eng-order name but then need to go back and manually change all the jap-order to keep consolidated.

I'm not married to either outcome, but I'm hoping for tracking purposes that we have all the tags together eventually, and have an aliasing system set up so they're automatically replaced with whatever our choice is on the format.

Is there some way we could reboot the danbooru code to enable these alias/implication requests to be enacted?

i have a question: that post in the forum that gelbooru changed the names to emphasize the english. that will not affect the site and the pics. and also that i should place japanese tags when i start posting things on this site.

It's not as hard as you think, tag aliases are a thing

Here, we already have "Thompsonbunny" which automatically gets changed to "voilavoilou"

Gelbooru has the "virgin" tag automatically change to "defloration"

So, even if an already existing image uses the old tag, because it's a alias of another tag, they share the post number next to their names

We don't, but copying tags when transitioning over means that we either have to manually change their eng-order tags to suit our still-jap-order tags, or else change ours to suit theirs, or else we have tags splits for a lot of japanese characters.
