how do deal with those mononymous artists

Posted under General

I just spent some time cleaning out the "Jimmy" tag (converted it to meta) as it was being used for mixed purposes like what I renamed Jimmy Two-Shoes (character) or Jimmy (artist) or Jimmy Madomagi.

In the latter case the artist signs his name just "jimmy" too, but luckily we got a surname from a Twitter.

The same can't be said of the WWOEC guy who does all the Simpsons art, and I'm not sure it's right to just say Jimmy (artist) when other Jimmy artists also sign their work with just that one word too...

I was thinking Jimmy (WWOEC artist) since that's the one thing that seems to stand out as unique (the Pixiv guy aka Madomagi AFAIK wasn't on WWOEC)

Yeah... I really really really love Paige's work, but trying to find his stuff is an absolute nightmare. I know he's used other monikers over the years but I can't remember them and Paige is so ubiquitous all my digging is in vain. :( I love looking at the growth of artists and seeing practice sketches and such, but so few people want to expose their crappy work. Sucks.

For situations where there are unsolvable conflicts it could be qualified with whatever site they use. I'm not aware of any artist sites that allow identical usernames, so this combined approach should solve all (categorization) issues. Unless I'm wrong and there are some art sites out there that don't actually care about rampant ambiguity.

Past handles must be pretty mysterious since they don't show up at https://e621.net/artists/33173 which is usually pretty good about congregating links for furry artists. Weird that only got made in 2018 given they've had an InkBunny for 11 years 5 months... though the archive only goes back to 2014 not 2010... https://web.archive.org/web/20140722110621/https://inkbunny.net/paige

I never understand why, that's the type of thing that can give hope to newbie artists. Like "hey I'm there now, and they got better so I can too!"

TBH kinda prefer original drow tales to new drow tales

the problem is basically if 2 users have same names on different sites, which to give authority. I sorta judge case by case

Ye, I'm at a point where I'm doubting my memory, but I was pretty certain he had a page somewhere with a list of old monikers that I meant to look up and never did.

Totally true, it's also great to see the concepts and ideas, even if nothing came of them. It can inspire others to make something of it and anybody will tell you you can't have too much Mae or Tilly.

I don't know drow tales, I'll check it out. Regarding multiple artists with the same name I assumed the best way was to disambiguate both of them with their respective site and not have one as a prime. In that situation having 'bill' on pixiv and 'bill_inkbunny' is likely to lead to mislabeling that isn't easily identified without trawling.
